The Psychology of Progress, or, the Thirty Seven Principles of Bodhi by Anagarika Dharmapala. The Buddha came to lead people who showed fear of the next life, and had faith in a life of Righteousness. He accepted the old ethical religions which preached charity, moral conduct, the heavenly life and proceeded further in proclaiming a new Doctrine not found in the old religions, viz., the immutable Law of Change, and the way to escape from the miseries of old age, decay and death and recurrent suffering. There is no hell to him who follows His Doctrine, he is assured of the Path of Sambodhi.
