Excerpt from The River St. John: Its Physical Features, Legends and History, From 1604 to 1784
As the papers contributed were found to have aroused considerable interest they were reprinted in book form. The edition was soon disposed of and is now out of print.
The present book will be found a great improvement upon the former one, not only as regards typographical appearance, but in matter of arrangement and literary style. Much new material has been added, including a description of the physical features of the river, while the chapters have been recast and to ma large extent rewritten.
The period covered begins with the discovery of the river in 1604 by Champlain and De Monts and ends with the coming of Mths Loyalists.
The story may one day be continued in another book, but the author must for the present rest content with his modest attempt to tell in these pages the story of the years that antedate the the formation of that part of old Nova Scotia north of the Bay of Fundy into the Province of New Brunswick in 1784.
