A MISSING SURFER, A SUNKEN U-BOAT, AND A NAZI SABOTEUR KILLED ON BLOCK ISLAND IN THE CLOSING HOURS OF WWII:
These are the basic ingredients of this thrilling murder mystery that pits ex-Navy fighter pilot Connor Laird and his journalist wife Lorraine Calhoun against the worst kind of criminals.
When Connor and Lorraine fly to the island to search for surfer Rusty Drake, nearsighted cab driver Miss Hattie takes Lorraine on a tour in her dilipadated minivan. They meet actor Dalton Montgomery who covets the privacy that the island offers his family while he is away filming a vampire television series in Georgia, and shyster attorney Logan Lawrence, who is secretive and evasive while his girlfriend does yoga outside in the nude. Then there is J. D. Dodge, who takes pot-shots at hikers on the trail near his pig farm and rants about the new offshore wind turbines that will put his island power company out of business.
Meanwhile Connor and FBI agent Rene Garcia make aperilous night dive to determine why a band of petty criminals has chartered a boat to dive on the U-853, which was depth-charged near the island a few hours after the rest of the German navy surrendered. Yet by the time Connor and Lorraine realize that Rusty's disappearance is linked to a mysterious Nazi killed by the beach patrol before dawn on May 5, 1945 they are already in the crossfires of competing conspirancies of greed, malice and murder that will put their entire family in danger ... unless they strike first.
