If you were a black man growing up in the south during the 50's and 60's you would know the true meaning of the title of this book. It was a time of segregation and hatred. It was a time when a man was judged by the color of his skin and not by the person that he truly was. The Ku Klux Klan ran rampant throughout the southern states of America. The law stood side by side with the hooded vigilantes and refused to uphold the law in many small southern communities. As we look back on the lives and deaths of three men in the height of the racially divided south of the 1950s and 60s. Let's keep in mind that with these three deaths so many learned how to live.
