The Ultimate Guitar Pentatonic Scales Book (Volume Two) In this book we will take the two note per string (2NPS) shapes to a whole new level by exploring three note per string (3NPS) shapes which is essentially a combination of two 2NPS adjacent shapes. 3NPS pentatonic shapes allow us to apply some exciting legato, economy picking and finger tapping sequences that wouldn't be possible with 2NPS shapes. The stretches can take some time to get used to but it is well worth the practice time. We will also be exploring some sequences with combinations of 2NPS and 3NPS shapes as well as some more advanced arpeggio ideas over string pairs. In volume one we looked at the theory behind the pentatonic scale, different ways to help sequence and practice it using vertical, horizontal and diagonal playing with the two note per string shapes, as well as ideas of how you can compose and improvise with the scale.
