Twelve-year-old Lorraine learns that the rent for her cottage is going to double, even though her mama is two months behind in payments. Lorraine goes to the wishing well in her Zimbabwean town and wishes they wouldn't be evicted and that her estranged father would come into her life to help. When Mama loses her job as a market vendor, Lorraine begins the search for her dad.
Lorraine's search is interrupted when a strange man starts following her around town. She keeps the stalker a secret, afraid Mama would try to stop her from looking for her dad. Lorraine has one week to figure out who the stalker is and find her dad, or she and her mama could become homeless.
