On April 28, 1783, the Sheriff of Rockingham proclaimed from the balcony of the State House the ratification by Con gress of the provisional articles of peace between the United States and his Brittanic Majesty. A large concourse assembled on the Parade heard it with the most lively demonstrations of joy.
