Harry Murphy has been phenomenally successful in the Earth Society of a future consolidated World Government, receiving great honors and privileges. His position also gains him first access to unbelievable alien technology from the Gamma Quadrant, but there are subtleties involved far beyond his, or any human understanding. As he stumbles on dark secrets associated with Earth Society methods of controlling the burgeoning populations of Earth, he must finally face his own conscience and suffer the consequences of rejecting the dark pit of human indifference and cruelty necessary to be a leader in Earth Society. As the cruelty of Earth Society turns on Harry, something truly Alien guides him, but he fails to understand how and why. He only observes a strangely comforting sentience in the alien device he acquires by chance, and he decides against all logic to trust it, and it saves him in a dramatic manner. But why?
