is a compilation of letters written by Rod McKay to a young woman he had only known for two weeks before he went into the Army July 1968, a journal he kept for slightly over 3 months during his first months in Vietnam, May 3-August 12, 1969, a letter he wrote to his parents which was published in The Malheur Enterprise in Vale, Oregon August 6, 1969, and 9 pages describing one particular day which he recorded at the end of that day and never sent to anyone. Rod wrote most of these pages during his 11 months duty in the First Air Cavalry in Vietnam May 1969 to April 1970. For interest and diversion, and to show the parallels and differences between the stateside Army and the Army at war there are paragraphs inserted from his letters during his time in Basic Training, Advanced Infantry Training, and his short time at Officer's Candidate School within the Vietnam writings. Rod always tries to see both sides and reports what he sees with his heart and his mind-he is always thinking and figuring. Though he is only one soldier he gives readers a sense of what every soldier saw and endured daily. This book will give the reader a distinct picture of daily life in the field in Vietnam.
