- - New handcrafted rugs will typically shed loose fibers. This is normal and will diminish with regular vacuuming, usually in 3 to 6 months. Vacuum regularly in one direction (not back and forth) using suction only, no bristles or beater bar. Rug pad is recommended. Spot clean only with a dry cloth, consult a professional for more persistent stains. Loose threads should be trimmed with scissors.
