To the seagulls flying across a brilliant afternoon sun and the Bluefish chasing smaller fish to the surface, the little boat seemed to appear out of nowhere. A small breeze rocked the dinghy gently, but didn't push the vessel in any particular direction. The little gust came and hurried off to the place the wind goes in obedience to forces larger than itself. The sea became as placid as the surface of a mirror. A small canopy over the stern protected the curled up, lanky sixteen-year-old boy. The late June sun at forty-one degrees latitude would have burned him badly, as he was wearing only a pair of aqua shorts and a black T-shirt. Had he been on the sea for a couple of hours, days or months? He didn't think of these things because he was sound asleep. As consciousness crept closer, the first sound to reach his ears was a series of clucks and low whistles. He half listened to the strange music and found the tune to be vaguely familiar. Josh's strange journey that began on his second birthday, had reached another way station. He was part of a larger journey, a farther journey that had begun 155,000 earlier. He had no idea, until made friends with the twins Emily, and Dylan, and Daniel, Natasha, Keesha, Peter, and found a very long lost relative in Llamera. The problem was, when he woke up in the boat, not only were his parents missing, he also had no memory of them or his life up to that point. What was important about his life, and the fate of the world, would have to be uncovered in time, (and even outside of time). A plan was being hatched by the descendants of the Conquistadors of old, a living remnant of the great evil that had been inflicted on native peoples centuries before. A cadre of Conquistadors had managed to keep their dream alive of total world domination for almost 600 years, and now that dream had become the obsession of their leader Ravin. His scheme would completely change foundations of the 21st century, under the banner of a group of men and their plan to create Conquistadora. Josh, his friends, the woman from his past, the legendary figure of Viracocha, and his traveling companion Jumla (one of the many names this ancient figure is known by), would have to find a way to not only counter the new Conquistador threat, but to return the earth to the way of the past, Ubuntu, and its guiding principle, where there can be no joy or prosperity for any, until there is joy and prosperity for all. It is a past, unbeknownst to them, that is bringing them together. A past that began with the One People, who ventured out of the Sub-Saharan Gateway, 155,000 years ago, led by the woman scientists have dubbed, Mitochondrial Eve. Every human alive today, in truth, shares her DNA, and it is she that helped begin our journey into the present. It is the past, present, and future generations, that Josh and his friends are trying to save. Josh's story, belongs to all of us, as does his journey, and perhaps, it is our future. But only if Josh and his friends can find the correct path to the past, the only one that leads to a new, and hopeful future. But Josh is also looking for his missing parents, and is unsure if they are dead or alive. He'll have to make the hardest decision anyone can make. Can he expand his idea of what a family is and does, and what that can mean not only for him, but for the world?
