Located at the northernmost end of Honshu, Aomori Prefecture is one of the few remaining undiscovered areas of Japan. In , Professor Anthony Rausch of Hirosaki University presents a year of life in Aomori, in a book both accessible and academic. Rausch has selected, edited, translated and grouped a year's worth of articles from a local Aomori newspaper into nine chapters that describe Aomori and provide for analysis of the prefecture on the basis of two contemporary sociological themes, peripherality and revitalization.
