Set in Astmond, a kingdom inspired by 16th Century France, it follows one character and her struggle.
12-year old Stefia del Dolorosa, an apprentice and adopted ward of the nobleman Astis Forteau de Halmaque, both Chevendarmes, or Constable Knights and practically family. She joins her adoptive father in solving murders and mysteries, all the while suffering the trauma of her past.
Beckoned by the Bailiff of Gaelon, they seek to uncover a mysterious serial killer who kills from far away and unseen. They will come across all sorts of enemies, such as rabid flying bat monsters, fallen nobles desperate to fight, zealot bandits, and even a band of mercenaries. Throughout this journey, they will gain new friends and allies, and find themselves uncovering a dark conspiracy that will spell doom on the entire province.
Throughout the narrative, it also includes recipes for foods inspired by actual Medieval and Renaissance era french cuisine.
