's album (her second for ) is more what comes to mind with the word "traditional." was born in Texas to Mexican immigrant parents, and her multicultural upbringing is a defining characteristic of her acoustic music (she sings in both Spanish and English, for example), as is her association with the current and scene in Austin. 's music, however, is often so sweet and nice around the edges that it becomes a turnoff. The songs on are as pretty as 's voice, but there's no dirt under the fingernails, which is exactly what makes the music of , for instance (another Austin-based artist), so vibrant and alive. ~ Kurt Wolff
