Many of the features which distinguished Earl Derr Biggers work and which made him beloved by millions of readers are evident in this collection of twenty-three stories. Mr. Biggers was interested in people and the solution of their problems as personal rather than general problems. These stories are full of the warmth that such an attitude engenders, and the dialogue gains immeasurably therefrom, even though occasionally the speeches are longer than the modern technic countenances. They show as well the extraordinary gift their creator had for plot, which is to say that element most frequently omitted by our modernistic writers. While Mr. Biggers' most famous creation was Charlie Chan, most of his stories have not been or rarely have been reprinted. We present twenty-three of his stories in this collection.
