Patrick Ryan Sims' sci-fi thriller Echo Dr. concerns a wealthy securities trader who purchases Dell, a state-of-the-art android for home security after his wife and child are kidnapped for ransom. Though at first the new invention seems to work perfectly, the robot begins rebelling against his owner's authority, and when the home's regular security system malfunctions, Dell decides that the family that hired him represent a danger.
