Declan Conley was a typical baby boomer whose life flashed before him after sharp chest pains and a trip to the E.R. He recalled his early childhood and the challenges of his teenaged years. As a kid, he played outside in all kinds of weather, and watched television whenever there wasn't a test pattern. He followed the triumphs and tragedies of the space program, and agonized over the Cuban Missile Crisis and Kennedy assassination. Then he became one of the "Me Generation" whose moral compass pointed toward "If it feels good, do it." The baby boomers attended rock concerts and peace rallies, and made a major impact on music, politics, and modern culture. Declan remembered grappling with terrible jobs, apathetic bosses, and the military draft. He indulged in fads, and spent money on gadgets like laptops and game platforms. He considered himself a free spirit who enjoyed rejecting conformity, and yet he traveled the same beaten path of marriage - mortgage - career - children - grandchildren and retirement. Presently he reflects on the absurdities of his life from a hospital bed. His generation inspired sweeping changes, but now Declan is hesitant to face the ultimate change.
