Katelyn is never sure of herself unless she's around Lance, (a close friend she has known since they were little) who is sweet, caring and confident enough for the both of them. An opportunity arises for the two of them to perhaps take their relationship in another direction, but Ethan, Katelyn's sister's boyfriend, presents a stumbling block in more ways than one. The story starts with a voice-over of Katelyn, explaining the value of hindsight and how, in the heat of the moment, choices are made quickly and rashly and, sometimes, without anyone realising a choice was made at all. She explains that she has run through the series of events in her head multiple times and imagined how it could have gone differently. We are then transported into her world of 'what ifs'.
