These extracts were written at the time the events occurred and present in a vivid way how army life appeared at the time when the comrades were army boys, not only in name but in age. There are different accounts of the same event, but it will be noticed that while they agree in facts they do not present the same word-pictures. They give the life as it actually was to the company and not tinged by the after thought of mature years nor by any social or military position which any may have reached afterwards.
