Recorded in 2007 at in Toronto, this album showcases the legendary interpretive pianist in a solo gig in 2007. 's career dates back over 60 years, and in all that time with his many experiments with sounds, keyboard instruments, and music (standards as well as originals), he hasn't lost his touch for bringing the hidden nuances in classic jazz compositions to the fore or creating new possibilities from popular song. Whether considering his classical extrapolations on 's the spacious harmonies in or the lovely syncopation and extrapolated harmonies and counterpoint in more contemporary tunes such as the end result is arresting and gorgeously performed. This one is on the Canadian label , so it may be a little tougher to find, but it's well worth the search. ~ Thom Jurek
