The emphasis on this ballad-oriented set (which was originally released on the Fat Cat's Jazz label) is on cornetist melodic variations. His highly expressive playing during a quintet outing with pianist , rhythm guitarist , bassist and drummer is full of emotion, with each note and growl standing out; is about the only stomp. "Duet" is a leftover track from a 1968 album with trombonist and clarinetist . ~ Scott Yanow
