The United States has finally embraced 'Star Wars' technology as a last resort to protect against the wildfire proliferation of nuclear weapons. Orbiting high above the earth, a team of US astronauts activate Space Station Sigma One's massive laser, capable of disintegrating any missile within minutes of its launch. But, ALEC, the base computer, makes a terrible mistake. It directs the laser to destroy an F-16 fighter. The sole purpose of the astronauts on board is to prevent computer destruct errors.
