Geron (political science, California State U., East Bay) has written a chronological account of the participation of Latinos in U.S. politics. The history of political participation among Americans with ancestry in Cuba, the Dominican Republic, Puerto Rico, Central America, and Mexico is traced, while the overall phenomenon of increased Latino political involvement in the U.S. is described in chapters that discuss key events and places. Among the topics and case studies are the breakthrough campaign for city council members in Crystal City, Texas; a campaign for Chicano majority in Parlier, California; Latino politics in Miami, San Antonio, and Los Angeles; and Latino representation in the Salinas Valley.
