Sariah Harlan is a Native American author that wanted to write a children's book for all ages that inspire young girls to be brave and strong. The plot expresses courage and struggles of a young Native American girl. A fiction story but inspired by real life events. New Moon is the main character she is from a tribe located in the heart of a mountain range. She is the daughter of Chief Red Lightning. New Moon is not like the other young women, she wants to be just like her father. When her father does not return home from a voyage with her brothers, she bravely sets out to find them. There is a new Chief Crow feather who is greedy and evil and does not lead like a true leader. Chief Red Lightning must come home and restore the peace. New Moon leans on prayers to the Great Spirit and her ancestors to give her strength on her journey. This book is part of a series, the next book is titled, "Gift of the Great Spirit."
