German philosopher Hartmann (1882-1950) originally published his 1926 work Ethik in one volume. The 1932 English translation was separated into three volumes, the second of which, reprinted here, was titled The Realm of Ethical Values. The new introduction by Kenneging legal philosophy, U. of Leiden, the Netherlands suggests that they must be read together, although Kenneging provides a summary of the main ideas of volume one.
