Prodigious Repelus has an intolerance to monster food, which causes horrible breath. The other monsters stay away from him. To avoid being rejected, he stops eating all together. When he can no longer tolerate the hunger, he eats a book that he finds in the woods. Lo and behold, it doesn't upset his stomach. He soon goes in search of more books to eat in the closest village. When the children discover their favorite books are gone, they decide to look for the guilty party.
