A compelling dramedy about a black teacher at an integrated L.A. high school. Created by James L. Brooks, it was praised for dealing realistically with such subjects as prejudice and drugs. At the 1969-70 Emmys, it won as Outstanding New Series, beating `Sesame Street,' `Marcus Welby, M.D.' `The Forsyte Saga' and `The Bill Cosby Show.' Karen Valentine and Michael Constantine won supporting Emmys for the series.
