Snarling anger tightened Okie's muscles... all his muscles. He had to make something happen and happen now... to make a change, to change now. He was no longer going to be herded here, shoved there, pushed into this, forced into that, ever again. All that had happened, was now past, and he wasn't going back to repeat it over and over again. He was never going back because tonight Okie was taking charge of his life. His feeble past was prelude to his electric future. Many... maybe most of us... ignore or perhaps purposefully avoid the opportunity to change our lives. Afraid to seize the shadowy gamble of promise. Afraid to go for something more. Afraid to try for the best, but to be content with what we're dealt, pledged forever to the beating down of our mind, of our body, to mediocrity, to the flat line of insignificance. And we lose, lose forever our chance for being something, for being someone, for gaining our pride of oneself.
