Previously known as , and started the project when they moved from North Carolina to Tennessee in 2016. As with their previous moniker, they construct lo-fi dreamscapes utilizing heavily treated, shoegaze-like guitars as well as field recordings, shortwave radio transmissions, and acoustic instruments including banjo, mandolin, and accordion. While operating in a similar realm, 's work is more collaborative than -- 2019's ambitious featured collaborations with , cellist , and several other musicians. The project's third album, , contains four 12-minute collage-like suites which each consist of several brief movements. The compositions segue from grainy choral samples to overdriven, backwards guitars to whirling chimes, with haunting speech excerpts about chemtrails and American commerce providing some semblance of a thematic framework. 's gorgeously melancholy string arrangements anchor a particularly poignant moment during "Changed in Autumn's Feral Depths," and 's synthesizers contribute additional otherworldly textures. Perhaps the most intense sequence is the third track, "At the End of Everything, At the Edge of Nothing," which incorporates rapid firework explosions into a whirling vortex as dense and busy as , then ends up with curdled pianos and a harrowing monologue about war ("I don't want to see my neighbors killed") which could easily fit as an interstitial moment on a album. "The Willow and the Meeting Twain" is the album's heavenly conclusion, glued together with natural sounds (flowing water, chirping insects) and filled with ethereal guitars reminiscent of circa / , but even more hallucinatory. The entire album is a stunning, singular experience, blurring the lines between magical euphoria and soul-crushing despair. ~ Paul Simpson
