In the 1960's and 70's there were a lot of good songs in circulation. In a time before computers, the internet, cable television, and music videos, the primary sources to hear these songs were AM/FM radio and the records themselves. Television appearances were rare. In short, the means to market and promote an artist and their songs were much more limited than today. It was the music that caught the listener's attention and sold the record. This book is one person's attempt to document many of the good songs from the era. More importantly, the focus is on those individuals who are the credited songwriter(s) since many of these people tend to go unrecognized publicly, unless they themselves also recorded a definitive version of the song. Most of the songs are from the genres of pop and rock with some exceptions. As for the selection of the songwriters included, the scope was limited to those who began their recording careers in the 1960's and early 70's, again with some minimal exceptions. The book represents only one opinion and is not intended as an exhaustive compilation or discography for any songwriter. Rather, it is merely a starting point for further discussion on the topic.
