I was raised with the mindset that we live in a fishbowl and what others see through the glass must be perfection. Once I reached the age I could start to shock the onlookers, break through the glass, I did. I aimed to break the constructs I felt I needed to live within to be what America viewed as successful so I opted to take to the road in a 2007 Chevrolet Express with my 14-lb furry companion. Living in the wild allowed me to revisit the map that got me to the point I was so lost I needed a new one drawn. We often avoid or tiptoe around talking about the traumas that mold the people we become. I bring a raw element to those traumas and the lasting impact they can have and speak through the silence we are encouraged to keep. I faced many trials and tribulations on the trip. I laughed. I cried. I screamed. I learned. I regressed. I grew. I was able to focus on the inside while running free outside. I learned to be alone and I relearned life isn't linear, but up and down similar to the outline of the Grand Tetons. This story aims to help others learn to live with grace in their own wild. It acknowledges the raw emotions we tend to suppress and the narrative it's so easy to tell ourselves in moments of overwhelm.
