Randall Craig is an unassuming, laid-back, listener, and devoted family man who has learned to live life on his own terms. That is the downside to the man people call a "chick magnet" to his face and a "ladies' man" behind his back. This quiet, constant, hardworking man is recently relocated back to his home in San Antonio to be near his family after fifteen years living in the DC area. Up until recently Sylvia Solomon had been a societal pariah to all except her deceased husband's nieces and business partners, Jessie Polanco and Retha Daniels and a few special friends. Not long after her life takes on some normalcy, Sylvia finds herself in the midst of a scheme by several of her business partners to sell her family's profitable eatery, Sugar's Place. She hires Randall, the cousin of her oldest and dearest friend, Jerome, as an accountant to help sort through the business's affairs. Sylvia quickly joins the crowd of women who find themselves attracted to the nonchalant Randall. The problem is Randall is not only the cousin of Sylvia's best friend but Sylvia is also the cousin of Randall's former love, Debra, the Prima Dona Diva. Debra could not be happier that her old flame is back in town and single. She is not long divorced and certain she and Randall will resume their relationship all those years ago. She makes plans to get him in her bed as quickly as possible but Randall, who has had his fill of strong-willed, self-serving women, has no desire to rekindle the flames with his one- time love. He tries to use tact, a trait unknown to Debra, to keep her at bay. Randall much prefers spending time with the easy going Sylvia and soon that friendship evolves into a warm love affair. When word of Sylvia's involvement with Randall reaches her family, a firestorm of controversy erupts. Allegations of wrongdoing by Randall and Sylvia reach bureaucratic offices and cause mayhem. Debra goes on a rampage to which Sylvia is her primary victim. Sylvia's mother condemns her relationship with Randall as taboo because Debra had him first, decades before. Jessie and Retha attempt to give counsel and support but know Sylvia must work through these issues for herself. Is Sylvia in violation of some moral code by dating her cousin's long ago lover? Does Sylvia need to do a catch and release with Randall because he's somebody her cousin used to know?
