Racial injustices that have led to massive social protests on campus shroud Ballaton University, the small southern university where Felice has been teaching for fourteen years. She has built quite a name for herself with all the work she has done within the African American Studies department. Felice crafted a watershed class exploring the concept of Diverse Unity and the effects it has on the society. It gained notoriety and brought attention to the university. Because of all her success, she is appointed the acting department head of the African American Studies department. She's apprehensive about the appointment, but her husband, Ronnie, convinces her that it is a blessing from God. With her anxiety intact, she approaches the appointment with excitement, but finds herself out on a limb when she must deal with Lithany, her maniacal assistant from hell. Without any help from Lithany, she must traverse the difficult waters of administration in higher education. To add to her troubles, there's a white nationalist group in town known to terrorize black women in academia. Some news outlets report that this group is allegedly responsible for the murder of a department head from Delta University found dead in the river and another that is missing. Among the protests happening, the white nationalist group come to town and begins to harass Felice who, in return, is afraid for her life. With all of this going on, Felice finds it difficult to hold it together. As a preacher's wife, she calls on her faith and the strength of her marriage to keep her from the anxiety and depression that creeps up to take her over, but neither seem to be able to sustain her. How did she get in this blessing turned calamity? More importantly, how is she going to get out with her mental health and even more, her life intact?
