A widowed Norwegian fisherman (Paul Muni) falls in love with the daughter (Anna Lee) of a British officer (Cedric Hardwicke), but the two are separated when she returns to England. After World War II breaks out and the Nazis occupy Norway, he leads a small voyage to the safe shores of the British Isles, and tries to rescue his true love.
