A report having been circulated that the kingdom was to be shortly invaded by the combined fleets of France and Spain, the Volunteers offered their services to Government, and some of the regiments performed military duties for some time in the sea port towns; and for their spirited conduct on this occasion, they received, a second time, the thanks of both Houses of Parliament. But the zeal of the Volunteers in the pursuit of their constitutional independance, was no less than their ardour in defending their country against a foreign foe.
