Where did religion come from in the first place? The author explores the idea that the propensity toward religion is actually embedded in our genes. And given that the three Abrahamic religions (Judaism, Christianity, and Islam) have had such an extensive, sweeping influence on the history of our world, as well as on modern life, it seems worthwhile to examine that influence, their own history, and the logic behind them. Can Intelligent Design reconcile the seeming incompatibilities between religion and science? Were the people in the Bible really who we think them to be? Does religion even make sense at all? Many famous and intelligent people throughout history have seemingly had trouble reconciling their religious backgrounds with their own rational thought. The mistakes in religious texts, as well as the violence within them and in modern religious conflicts, bring into question their validity, particularly given their claimed tenets of peace and love. Considering these contradictions, the author explores the potentially apocalyptic problems that religion forces us to face today.
