Larry Trotter is a middle-aged, unemployed loser until he is invited to dinner by a pair of eccentric neighbors who grill him on his past, and during which he passes out. He wakes to find that his world has not only been turned upside down, but also inside out and twisted up like a sweater left on the dryer too long. He is thrust into an adventure that soon embroils him in ancient history, a worldwide conspiracy, corporate intrigue, golf (but I already said corporate intrigue, didn't I?), an epic chess game, Martian invaders, saving the world, rock and roll, and even more terrifying, a steady girl friend. Yet, he still has time to cook for himself. How Trotter manages these, and other challenges is the plot of this absurd and comic fantasy lark. This novel contains profanity and mild sexual innuendo.
