Richard Frost is fifty-two years old single male working in an assembly plant in Albany New York. He is very intelligent, but has never been considered normal by any stretch of the word. That is, he seems to be lacking basic social skills, has an inability to express affection, and has a dark side in which he struggles to keep hidden. Personally, he knows and accepts the fact he is quite different. The combination of his intelligence and his differences reinforces his belief that he doesn't fit in. Hellen McAllister is searching for love, companionship, and a father figure for her nine-year-old son Mason. She will do almost anything to win Richard over. Her genuine concern and sincere affection will give her possession of his heart. Emotionally, she will create feelings he has never experienced before. He will surrender to her parts of himself he never knew he had control of. On the outside, his life will appear to be normal. However, the relationship which develops between Richard and Mason, Hellen's nine-year-old son, will disturb her after she accidentally hears her son talking to his imaginary friend in his bedroom. Her desire for love and companionship will quickly become her need to find answers to what she can't understand. She will use her intuition, the time Richard and Mason share together, and her nerves, to unlock Richard's secrets.
