Color, shape and size are three very visible characteristics of the world around us. As we look around, our minds are observing and categorizing green grass, big trees, small flowers, square windows, brown rectangle buildings, blue sky and white clouds. Color, shape and size are ways children notice and categorize what they see. These very familiar features enable children to interpret and organize the varied world around them. Understanding, colour, shape and size are essentials which children need to know in order to master Reading, Writing, Language and Maths. Furthermore, it is a tool for learning many skills in all subject areas. However, for autistic children who are mostly visual thinkers and learners, color, shape and size can be used to create learning steps, helping them to pick up words and concepts, and develop basic skills. Ultimately, the goal is to motivate the child to develop better verbal communication skills.
