For the present volume, the compiler collaborated with Mehrdad Khatib Rahbar and Beth L. Savage to present the results of his research to an international audience. All 2002 proverbs in this dictionary are grouped in these categories: proverbs, proverbs-in-verse, conventional phrases, and dialogue proverbs. Each entry appears in the original Persian, followed by a new English translation, an explanatory note on the meaning and usage of the proverb, the English equivalent proverb if found, and finally the phonetic transcription of the Persian proverb in Latin alphabet. English and Persian indexes, and a Persian prologue are included.
