Mathew McGregor, a prominent former professional fighter in the World Mixed Martial Arts League, became a world title finalist at the height of his career. However, due to the years inside the octagon and the number of brain contusions he suffered as a result of his activity, he opted to retire and dedicate himself to being a trainer, instructor and teacher in the prestigious MMX League. So the man spent months traveling around the world in search of a pupil he could train and bring back to the World League, but this time in the role of trainer. After spending part of his savings exploring underground fights and gyms in Europe, the United States and Latin America without finding the type of fighter he was looking for, he decided to travel to the land of the rising sun, Japan, driven by his love for the Dragon Ball series. He hoped to find an apprentice who was different. However, with his spirits dejected after a fruitless search, on his last night in Tokyo, he decided to go to a bar to drink and there he witnessed a fight in which the young German girl, Hanna Marie Klein Braun, was beating up two men who had harassed her, generating at that moment an unexpected sports bond for both of them. "Uppercut" is a novel told from the perspective of master and former mixed martial arts fighter, "The Beast" McGregor. He recounts how his life changed, how his view of the world and the sport were transformed by meeting Hanna. The story then moves into the mind of the fighter, narrating her experience from the disciple's perspective, respecting the "Sensei-Seito" tradition of Japanese culture. This novel is an entertaining read, especially suitable for fans of competitions such as MMA, UFC or fighting sports in general. In addition, in an agile and entertaining story, "Uppercut" reinforces the quest for self-improvement, continuous improvement and the idea of becoming the best version of oneself rather than simply copying someone else. The novel combines great determination with a message of discipline, but at the same time, highlights the importance of enjoying life and the simple things, all in the context of intense competition.
